About the event:
In September, IDP and Fedactio are organising an exciting marathon of selected movies related to the theme of social inclusion. The series of event is special since it includes short, feature movies, space for debate and much more. Among the award-winning movies, “Almanya: Welcome to Germany”, “Zagros” and “Welcome” should be noted. The movie marathon is an opportunity to live a collective experience which allows us to dialogue about the values conveyed by the movies, the co-existence between people with a different ethnic or cultural background by sharing our personal experiences and reflections on such themes. At the beginning of each session, a short moment will be dedicated to introduce the film and collect the first expectations from the audience, while after the end of the film, the floor will be open to debate.
About the movie:
On Saturday 2 October we will be screening the movie “Welcome”, which tells the story of a Kurdish teen Bilal (Firat Ayverdi), who has travelled all the way to the north of France in the hope of reuniting with his girlfriend in England. To get around a legal technicality, he decides to swim across the English Channel. But how do you cover 32 kilometres of the English Channel when you can't swim? The boy soon discovers that his trip won't be as easy as he imagined...
The screening will be followed by with discussions and a warm gathering between participants in Dutch language.
About the Intercultural Campaign
The Intercultural Europe campaign aims to foster mutual understanding between newcomers and locals, highlighting commonalities, underlining how different cultures can enrich one's personal life and stimulating participants' curiosity about different histories and cultures. In Belgium, IDP and Fedactio plan to organise cine clubs, storytelling sessions and visits to historical, artistic and religious sites.
